Description

The Hooded Merganser is a common winter visitor to North Platte. This is a non-working smoothie decoy, hand carved from Tupelo Gum wood and painted with acrylic.

Growing up on wildlife rich Bayou Liberty in Slidell, Louisiana, Phil Galatas enjoyed countless hours observing and studying waterfowl on the marshlands.  Phil also spent fifteen years living in Nebraska where he was continually inspired by our native flying wildlife, especially birds of prey.  His work is included in many public collections including the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, the Phillips Petroleum Museum of Oklahoma and the Louisiana Museum of Art. His art has been featured in exhibits at the National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, D.C.; various exhibitions in New York City; Easton Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland; and in several cities in Japan. Donated by Phil Galatas and Haven Smith.
