2010 Miss Teen Rodeo Nebraska

Shelby Peters

Miss Shelby Peters was named the 2010 Miss Teen Rodeo Nebraska during the Nebraskaland Days Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant. She is the daughter of Joe and Candy Peters of Red Cloud, Nebraska. Shelby has two older sisters: Stacia Shipman and Courtney Streit. Shelby also has 4 nieces: Jocelyn Shipman, Julia Shipman, Kayli Streit and Maycie Streit; further more, she has 3 nephews: Justin Shipman, Laythen Streit, and Jake Shipman. During the Pageant, Shelby won the areas of horsemanship, personality and tied in the area of the written test.

Shelby is a senior at Red Cloud High School and enjoys being very active. She is the Captain of her spirit squad (cheer and dance) as well as the President of her FFA Chapter. Shelby also participates in One Act Play Production, Speech, Softball, REACH (Responsible and Educated Adolescents Can Help), National Honor Society, and is the news reporter for her 4-H club. She is a volunteer for the Mary Lanning Hospice team for the terminally ill. She is a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Franklin County Memorial Hospital throughout the year as well as a Lifeguard at the Red Cloud Community Pool during the summer.

She has ambitions to attend college for a pre-medical program. She aspires to be a doctor and come back to a rural area to practice. Eventually she hopes to become a part of Doctors Without Borders or take mission trips to third world countries to offer her help and knowledge.

The story is that “horse” was Shelby’s first word. Having two older sisters, Shelby’s parents thought this was merely a phase and that she would be out of it in a couple of years. However, after many years had passed and her desire for a horse still stood strong, her parents decided to buy her a saddle for Christmas as a precursor for things to come. This saddle fueled her ambitions for 4H and rodeo queening in the next few years.

Shelby’s motto is “Life’s a dance, you learn as you go.” Ever since Shelby was in diapers she has known every word to this song by John Michael Montgomery. She lives by this in the way that you may not know everything but it’s all right because you will learn from your experiences and mistakes. She also believes that sometimes in life we are leaders and at other times we need to follow to grow and prosper into who we are meant to be.
